Song of Songs

Song of Songs

One of the guys in my honors class has started a community blog for everyone to post on, and here is my most recent post. It's a topic I have blogged about before, but I always seems to come back around to this verse. Enjoy!

Warning: Girly thoughts ahead!
Song of Songs can be a well... awkward book to read. And not just if you "make it awkward." I'm pretty sure the Lover and Beloved made it awkward for us.
Despite this, I am repeatedly drawn to it, and especially to chapter 2, verse 7 in which the Beloved (woman) says,"Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you by the gazelles and by the does of the field: Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires."
Here is a woman who has found her perfect love, her soul mate, or whatever you may call it. And yet she seems to not recommend seeking out the bliss she has, "until it so desires."
Personally, this has always been a struggle of mine, which is why I come back to this verse several times a year. I always want to be IN love, falling in love, some sort of romantic love. All my favorite books and movies are or include romance, when I meet a guy I evaluate his datability (I am sorry to admit). So why can I not accept this charge in Song of Songs? Am I afraid that it will never awaken itself of its own accord? Do I not trust that God has a plan? I know that my worth comes from God, so why do I so often return to this idea that it's not?
Every time I read this verse, it re-empowers me to live by it, especially after my "romantic situation" lately. Do not awaken love until it so desires. If I wait for love, it will be that much sweeter.
